Alinafe is a D2D sponsored student who will graduate this coming August with a degree in Business Administration from Malawi Adventist University in the Ntcheu district of Malawi’s central region. Alinafe is an outgoing and ambitious young woman who is working hard to achieve her goals.
Alinafe was selected as a D2D sponsored student in 2010 when she began her first year of secondary school. When she was in standard three, Alinafe became interested in finance after being inspired by a degree-holding woman working at the National Bank of Malawi. She also wanted to learn more about Malawi’s economy and how it can be improved. According to Alinafe, there are few honest people working in Malawi’s economic sector and she wants to be one of them, which a degree in Business Administration will allow her to do. During her university holidays, Alinafe volunteered her time as an intern in D2D’s accounting office. From this opportunity, she gained work experience and exposure to people of different cultural backgrounds, which will help her in future managerial roles.
After graduating, Alinafe hopes to return to school for a Master’s in Banking and Finance. She offers words of encouragement to her fellow young women, saying, “You should not underrate yourself. You can do anything that a man can do. If you want to achieve something in your life, you need to work hard and not rely on others to do it for you.” Through her words and actions, Alinafe is setting an example of positivity and determination for other aspiring degree-holders.
